Insider tips

Everyone does their research before planning a trip to Basel, but does anyone consider the best practices once they get there? You don’t want your guests to travel around Basel unawares or unprepared, so here’s a list of travel tips to make their trip just that bit easier.

Border triangle

Basel Region

The point at which Germany, France and Switzerland converge and boats sail off towards the North Sea is also a transport hub for the supply of raw materials to Switzerland. A unique meeting place for three countries, languages and cultures.

Guest Wifi Basel

Basel offers guests staying overnight the possibility of surfing free of charge in the city’s own WiFi network. The «Guest WiFi Basel» is available at various locations close to major sights and squares in the city. Information about accessing the free WiFi is provided at the booked accommodation.

The official Rhine swim

You can take a dip in the Rhine at any time during the summer months, however the official Rhine swim takes place only once each year. Whether young or old or somewhere in between, thousands brave the waves and join the big swim event.

The «Wickelfisch»

The "Wickelfisch", a unique Basel invention, is a watertight sack that keeps your clothes dry whilst swimming. It costs CHF30 and is available from our tourist information centres. A special edition "Wickelfisch" from our summer competition last year is also available for purchase exclusively at the centres.

Refreshment stalls (Buvettes)

The buvettes have become an established part of the Basel cityscape. They open up in fine weather to serve delicious drinks and snacks – perfect for relaxing.

Basel Zentrum

Take a trip across the Rhine in style and comfort on one of the four ferries that connect Kleinbasel with Grossbasel.

Mobility Ticket for free public transport

Each guest staying in a Basel hotel receives a free Mobility Ticket when checking in. It entitles him to free use of public transport in the city of Basel and its environs for the entire duration of his stay. The reservation confirmation is valid for the use of public transport from EuroAirport or from the Basel rail stations to the hotel on the day of arrival.
